Because of Arsenal and Liverpool…a strange case threatens Manchester City with expulsion from the Champions League!

Being in the lead positions doesn't seem enough!

A strong shock awaits English club Manchester City in the Champions League next season, and the reason is Arsenal and Liverpool.

Coach Pep Guardiola’s team currently occupies second place in the English Premier League, two points behind leaders Liverpool and on goal difference behind third-placed Arsenal.

The new Champions League regulations make finishing fifth in the tournament sufficient to qualify for the competition, but there is a sudden turn of events that may prevent City from participating even if it occupies one of these positions.

The “Sportbible” website highlighted that the City Football Group currently owns a 47% stake in the Spanish club Girona, which is close to qualifying for the Champions League next season by occupying second place in La Liga.

The website indicated in its report that under current ownership rules, Girona’s participation would create a huge problem for Manchester City due to belonging to the same company.

What is interesting is that this will happen in the rare case that City occupies a position in the English Premier League lower than the position that Girona will occupy on the other side in the Spanish League, so Liverpool and Arsenal will directly affect this matter as they are the fiercest duo in the struggle for the Premier League.

But if City and Girona occupy the same position, the English team can reach it because England is the top ranked country in the European Union’s access list for its competitions.

According to the report, the European Union is currently monitoring the situation and evaluating ties between Girona and Manchester City. If this relationship affects the fortunes of the English side, the City Group may be forced to reduce its stake in Girona.
